The town of Guadix is just a 90 minutes drive from our self catering holiday accommodations, The Granero and The Villa, in rural Granada, and makes for an interesting day trip. The town of Guadix boasts a number of monuments which fuse Gothic, Renaissance and Baroque architecture - such as the Alcazab and the cathedral - which was built on the site of the Great Mosque. As construction of the cathedral commenced in the 16th Century the interior architecture is very much of the Renaissance period whilst the façade of the cathedral is influenced by the style of Boromini. A particularly interesting area of the town is the cave quarters, which provides an interesting and distinct blend of colours, from the red earthen surroundings to the white washed façades of the cave dwellings. During certain times of the year, visitors to the area are able to look inside some of the interesting cave houses of Guadix.
